Hotfix for 2.77 confirmed!

We would like to thank you for the massive feedback for and interest in ET: Legacy 2.77. On the first day alone we broke 1.5k downloads and that number is still increasing. Unfortunately, with such a substantial changelog it was not surprising that a few issues sneaked by, which were cause for a bit of a headache for everyone the last two days. Therefore, we have decided to pause work on the current roadmap for 2.78 release and instead concentrate on ironing out the main bugs with 2.77 and ship a hotfix to you in the coming week(s). hotfix.jpg

The primary identified issues are as follows:

Issue: Asset MD5 checksum failed pop-up during installation. Cause: Mirror link for downloading original asset paks doesn't work. Fix: Click "Try again" and it should choose Mirror#2.

Issue: Couldn't load official pak file error when connecting to servers. Cause: You are missing pak1 and pak2 files in your ETLegacy/etmain folder. Fix: Download these paks from https://mirror.etlegacy.com/etmain/ and place them in etmain folder in fs_basepath (aka. installation path).

Issue: Alt+Tab Minimiser doesn't work. Cause: Caused by SDL update. Fix: Use Borderless fullscreen or Windowed mode, which let's you exchange between opened windows.

Issue: Antivirus blocking ET: Legacy installer. Cause: Windows.. Fix: Allow the application manually until it is whitelisted by Microsoft.

Issue: The game is showing old version number, or has bugged menu. Cause: 2.77 was installed over 2.76 path, causing conflicts. Fix: Clean up installation and Documents/ETLegacy/legacy (Win) folders.

Issue: Infinite download loop when connecting to server. Cause: Downloaded file is stored as temp file and moved to fs_homepath/etmain/dlcache folder. Fix: Manually copy the respective file from fs_homepath/etmain/dlcache to fs_homepath/etmain

ET: Legacy 2.77 released!

'Capture the City!'

It's massive. It's stable! It's GODLIKE!

277_promo1.jpg

It was also overdue, but now it's finally time for ET: Legacy 2.77 *'Capture the City!', our most comprehensive release to date. Yes, we have been saying that about the past releases as well, but only because it's true! Thanks to an actually growing ET: Legacy community and more active interest and involvement by players and server owners alike, the amount of feedback we have received since 2.76 was absolutely astonishing. Thank you for that!

205353642_Newmuppetbannerv5(s).png.262f391314124f5745a72a931f274636.png At this point we would like to extend the warmest of all regards to the TeamMuppet ET community, who braced against a continued storm of bugs and endured frequent server crashes and downtimes by testing unstable development snapshots. The feedback gathered through your playtests has been incredibly valuable! So valuable in fact that we decided to provide those development snapshots publicly over here. They are a wonderful opportunity for us to massively shorten the release cycle in the future, lower the feedback barrier between developers and players and get hands-on experience on the latest features and bug fixes by the community.

Changelog

We know the most interesting part of a new release is to read up on all the things that got fixed, added or changed, however, it's not possible to go through everything in detail here, so please have a look at the comprehensive changelog here. Nonetheless, there naturally are items on the list that stand out and we decided to compile them in the short list below:

  • Added new download container system
  • Fixed VM_Create crash when player had utf-8 chars in their username (Windows)
  • Added HUD objective indicator
  • Added clearer simple items icons (use cg_simpleItems 2 to only use simple packs and weapon)
  • Added shoutcaster mode / Added shoutcast overlay

We still want to provide you with in-detail explanations regarding some changes, so please stay tuned for more blog posts in the future. For now, however, we think it's best to let you play around with this new release without further ado: download.png

We have an ETA!

ET: Legacy 2.77 is coming!

Say goodbye to soon(TM) and say hello to the 1st of March 2021 as release date for ET: Legacy 2.77 'Capture the City!'. 277_teaser.png The long-term mix of quarantine and home-office makes it difficult to keep track of dates? ET: Legacy 2.76 'The enemy is weakened!'

Dear ET community,

We hope all of you have thoroughly enjoyed your Christmas break and have endured a pleasant start into 2019. I'm sure most of you have gained a few pounds from all the delicious Christmas food and are trying to cut it down but before you get up and start jogging around we ask that you hold onto your seats a little longer as we've got one more present for you! It's been a while since our last release, but today's the day!

To download, please refer to the download section on our website.

Before going any further, we would first like to thank francis for spearheading, hazz, bystry and seeD for their guidance and TeamMuppet for providing server infrastructure for the evolving competitive scene. So, a warm welcome to all competitive players.

What's new?

  • VM_Create on UI error is resolved so no more manual work-arounds are necessary.
  • Bayesian skill rating is implemented allowing for global comparison of skill among players.
  • WolfAdmin is now the default game manager, providing many useful admin commands.
  • Our own master server is up and running, so even if id master goes down you're good to go.
  • Renderer2 + assets will be available in a bit, bringing you the best graphics for ET yet.

-> complete changelog is on our wiki.

What's next? 'The enemy is weakened!' is by far our most comprehensive release yet. This means, that before anything else, we first need to take a step back and check if everything is running as intended. All pending tickets (nearly 200!) have been moved to 2.78 and 2.77 is now reserved for non-breaking quality of life improvements and smaller issues.

There are three overarching focuses: #1 - Smoothing out the game experience to ease the transition of the competitive scene to ET: Legacy. #2 - Further improving our new renderer to make the game more attractive for new players. #3 - Supporting Android and Raspberry PI devices to simplify server management and test mobile gaming.

The ET: Legacy development is open to anyone. If you would like to be a part of it, we'd be glad to have you. Simply join our Discord and start chatting with us.

3D Modeller Recently, InspirationTuts finished and provided us with their first weapon model, the iconic Kar98. For that, we are in need of a 3D Modeller, acting as a bridge between InspirationTuts (modelling) and Zimuus (animations) and finally bringing the weapons in-game. If you would like to assist in the implementation of new weapons, then please let us know.

UI Designer One big aspect of any gaming experience is the User Interface, which in ET is riddled with difficult to navigate server browsers, limbo menus etc. There already are some very nice UI concepts by mAus in our Discord, should you need inspiration. ET: Legacy now comes with Bayesian skill rating and IRC functionality, which also opens the gates for implementing some kind of social system. If you would like to create a user-friendly first front to the player, then please, let us know.

Mac Maintainer/Developer With every OS X update from Apple they break support for things. Currently, we have no Mac developer/maintainer in the team, which is always a problem when wanting to release a new version. We have no real possibility to test the Mac build, let alone people who continuously keep it working. In order for ET: Legacy to remain playable on Mac in the future, we are in need of a Mac maintainer. If you have a Mac and knowledge about development (maybe even Mac developer status), it would be very helpful if you could reach out to us.

Translators The ET community has always been incredibly diverse so in order to show our appreciation for our world wide player base, ET: Legacy now comes with translations for multiple languages. Translating the game is done entirely by community members. All we require is that you are fluent in English and your native language, so if anyone at all is interested in helping out with these translations, don't be shy, hit us up! Any and all help is very much appreciated. If you want to get started, please let us know or simply have a look at Transifex.

Wiki Maintainers In order to help new players get started, a comprehensive community driven wiki is desirable, containing all necessary and useful information. This includes information regarding the general installation of the game, tweaking cvars to achieve the best possible experience as well as general tips, tricks, strategies and tutorials. The foundation is already layed out, but we need the community to populate it. If you have some DO's and DONT's to share, please let us know or directly dive into the wiki and complete it with your knowledge.

If you feel like you can contribute in any other way, be it overhauling assets or proven competitive maps, advancing the new renderer or any other contribution, don't hesitate to join our Discord and chat with us. ET: Legacy is an open, community driven development and every helping hand counts.

ET:Legacy 2.75 released!

Long overdue, but it is finally here! Nearly one year ago, we released version 2.74, which has since been downloaded more than 50 thousands times. Today, we are pleased to announce the release of ET: Legacy 2.75.

As the game has been in a stable state since quite some time, we had the possibility to specifically focus on polishing the game feature-wise as well as improving the general player experience. Both the game engine and Legacy mod came to the table and received innumerable bug fixes and further code clean-up, making this new version the biggest we have ever released.

The changelog is long and ranges from rather simple UI changes like the 'landmine spotted' spamming to more serious back-end updates. Key updates worth mentioning are the additional OpenAL sound backend that will surely rejoice 7.1 surround system owners, as well as the new openGL 3 renderer. While now available for general public testing, this new renderer remains for now in an ‘experimental’ state and will be improved gradually over the following months. Other notable changes include a working multi view feature and the re-activation of the gamepad device code.

The implementation of a skill rating system definitely reached a milestone, and the addition of a SQL backend will allow flexible and powerful control with a complete Lua administration suite that will be delivered to you soon. Both of these features will be introduced in more details in the coming days. So make sure to keep an eye out for this project!

We are confident to say that ET: Legacy is the most advanced, stable and optimized ET version ever created and we will continue to work to live up to that statement. Future features and updates are already in the pipeline and are being worked on. The work on getting ET: Legacy away from the licensed assets took a big leap forwards as well a few weeks ago. We are definitely on the right track!

Our thanks goes out to all regular contributors, fans and helping hands that participated in bug reports, suggestions and fixes. If you are interested in joining our efforts, please don't hesitate to get in contact with us. We are a community driven project and everyone is welcome to join. You can leave a reply here, on our forum or our IRC channel.

NOTE Linux builds are coming later today! UPDATE: Linux files are in, have a nice fragathon!
